IC Knowledge - 300mm Transition October

Introduction
Figure 1 presents the cumulative number of 300mm Fabs currently announced, under construction or in production by year (green bars). Figure 1 is up-to-date as of October 1st, 2001 and includes data on 48 projects tracked in the IC Knowledge database (some are on-hold or canceled). Since our August update 4 Fabs due to eneter use in 2002 have been canceled or put on hold and 1 Fab due in 2003 has been delayed to 2004. Previously we were surprised at the strength of 300mm construction activity given the current downturn. The current push-outs are likely to be the beginning of an overdue correction.
